“Everybody can translate or interpret”: not true!

Translating or interpreting does not limit itself to studying lists of words or to proofreading documents translated by Google. The translator’s or interpreter’s personal competences help them to do a good job. In other words:

Willingness to learn

Discovery of new cultures

Better understanding of globalization

Adaptation to different situations

Management of stress and unexpected events

Precision work

“Artificial intelligence will do the work of translators and interpreters”: not true!

Artificial intelligence fails to take a number of factors into account that may influence the results of the tasks, such as cultural notions or diplomatic issues at stake. AI can be of some help to translators and interpreters, but a professional will be able to understand and analyse the situation better.
